About Ship AYSO|
Shippensburg AYSO is a great place for kids to learn to play soccer and more importantly learn about good sportsmanship and physical fitness. It's not just about playing the game and winning, it is a positive experience where everyone plays and learns how to be a good teammate. Shippensburg AYSO follows the 6 AYSO philosophies to ensure everyone plays and the teams are balanced.
The Shippensburg Region of AYSO was formed in March 1991 by Brad Gerlach, Mike Ramsey, Gordy & Carol Kirkland and Warren Jones and his wife. (We apologize if anybody else was missed.) The region became a "chartered" region in March of 1992.
Our current commissioner is Ricky Davis.
Our previous commissioners have been:
For the first season, only 30 players participated - not a bad start. In the following years, the region quickly grew in size and soon peaked at over 500 players per season. Since 1996 we have been offering spring and fall soccer seasons to the Shippensburg area youth. For the past several years, we have typically registered over 300 players each season. We currently have over 1900 eligible players are in our database, so we've had a great number of participants over the years.
Our region now supports programs for children aged 4 through 18. We have teams in each of the following age groups: U5, U6, U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U19. The u5, U6 and U8 teams games are played against other Shippensburg teams. The U10, U12, U14, U16 and U19 teams travel and play teams within our AYSO area.
