The basic four positions in soccer are:
- Goalkeeper: This position is responsible for guarding the team's goal and is responsible for preventing the opposite team from scoring.
- Defender: Also known as fullback, this position's main duty is to prevent the opponent from having a good shot at the goal.
- Midfielder: Also known as halfback, this position is to play between the defenders and the forwards. Responsible for transitioning the ball from the defensive end of the field to the offensive end of the field.
- Forwards: This position is to score goals.
It is important to remember that any player may score a goal, regardless of position.
